Minister: Rev. Dr. Alex Yesudas
The first Birstall Methodist Society was formed in 1741 by John Nelson, a stone mason born in Birstall in 1707. He had been converted to Methodism after hearing John Wesley's teachings whilst working in London.
In 1750, the first Church was built on the site, by John Nelson, and this was extended due to increasing membership in 1782.
By 1860, a much larger Church was needed and completed, together with the Wesleyan Day School on the opposite side of the road, paid for by worshipping members of the Church.(Now Birstall Academy).
In 1880, a separate Sunday School was added as numbers were still increasing.
Today, our Church is located in what was known as the "Band Room" wing of the original Sunday School, with a new extension added in 2017 .
Our building is multi purpose, and is in use six days out of seven.
